Daguerreotype Black
I leaf through an illustrated book with photos: mid-19th century, the southern United States, in the middle of the slavery period. The images remain stuck on my retina. I use tracing paper mounted on kraft paper, as for "River Woman", "Desert Woman", and "Naked Woman" to bring to life these slaves photographed by their master. Like these anonymous human beings, these small paintings have no title other than " Daguerreotype Black" followed by a number.
